When Should You Add Your Teen Driver to Your Policy?
In most cases you can wait until your new driver gets their permanent license. Find out which states have exceptions.
Q. My 15-year-old daughter will be getting her learner’s permit soon. Do I have to add her to my policy now?
A. Although raising a teen may be expensive, this is one situation where you get a break. You don’t need to add a young driver with a temporary permit to your MetLife Auto & Home® auto policy. You can wait until your new driver gets her permanent license. (There are exceptions to this rule in certain states, including Kansas, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.) Your teen will be covered by your policy if she accidentally takes out a mailbox while learning to drive, but you won’t pay any additional premium until she’s licensed.
